  26. 1. Installation
  27.  
  28. To install Quick Route double click the file "setup.exe". In the 
  29. setup window click the "Install Quick Route" button. This will bring up
  30. a window asking where you would like Quick Route to be installed to.
  31. Next, you can type in a directory e.g. "c:\mydirectory", or you can 
  32. browse your hard drive to find the directory you want. It does not
  33. matter whether the directory you select exists or not, the setup 
  34. program will create the new directory if necessary.
  35. When browsing through directories, to select a directory to install to
  36. click the "Select" button or press enter key in the text window.

  40. 2. Uninstallation
  41.  
  42. To uninstall Quick Route, go back to the setup program and then click 
  43. "Uninstall Quick Route" and all the Quick Route files will be removed.

  47. 3. The Basics of Quick Route
  48.  
  49. To operate Quick Route is simple. In the text window of Quick Route, 
  50. type your command name and press enter key. This will load your desired 
  51. file. To open directories, type "dir" then type a directory path or
  52. a directory shortcut name (if applicable), to open the directory.
  53. To open web pages and web sites type "web" then type your web shortcut 
  54. name.

  56. By clicking on the "Command Options" button, it allows you look at 
  57. lists of pre-set Quick Route commands and user-made commands. 
  58. The "command options" window gives you the option to make new commands 
  59. and delete existing ones. (For further details about creating new 
  60. commands go to chapter 5) The "command options" also gives you the 
  61. option to edit file associations, directory and web page shortcuts.

  69. 4. Command Options window
  70.  
  71. There are several different options in this window:
  72.  
  73. Close button: Exits the Command Options window.
  74.  
  75. Error Solving button: If there is a problem or error in a user-made command 
  76. then Quick Route will detect it and the "Error Solving" button will be 
  77. shown. This button helps to fix the problem with the command.
  78.  
  79. Pre-set Commands list: You can use these commands in Quick Route like 
  80. user-made commands but you cannot alter them. If you double-click one 
  81. of the commands it will show you what it does.

  83. Custom Commands list: These are commands defined by the user. They can be 
  84. altered by double-clicking on a command. This will bring up a menu of 
  85. options including, "change path", "rename command", "delete command" 
  86. and "password protection". It also shows you the path of the command 
  87. e.g. "c:\paint.exe".

  90. New Command: Creates a command defined by the user.

  92. Delete Command: This deletes the command selected in the "Custom
  93. Commands" window. If no command has been selected then you must click 
  94. on the command, you want to select in the "custom commands window" and 
  95. then click "delete command" to delete it.

  98. Edit File Associations: This opens the File Associations editor. (For
  99. more information on file association see chapter 7)

  101. Edit Directory Shortcuts: This opens the Directory Shortcuts editor. 
  102. (For more information on directory shortcuts see chapter 8)

  104. Edit Web Page Shortcuts: This opens the Web Page Shortcuts editor.

  116. 5. User-made command window
  117.  
  118. There are seven different options in this window:
  119.  
  120. Path window: This shows you the command path of the program used to execute 
  121. the user-made command.
  122.  
  123. Close button: Exits the User-made command window.
  124.  
  125. Delete Command button: This deletes the command being shown in this window.
  126.  
  127. Rename command button: This enables you to rename the command. To save the 
  128. new name press enter key in the text window or click on the "save" 
  129. button.

  131. Change Path button: This enables you to change the command path of the 
  132. command. (See chapter 5 about selecting a command path.)
  133.  
  134. Password Protection button: 
  135.     Quick Route contains a good password system. To enable a 
  136. password click the "Password Protection" button. In the Password 
  137. Protection window click on the "No Password" button. This button should
  138. then say "Password Protected". Then go to the text window and type your password. Finally, click "Save & Exit" and the password 
  139. will be enabled. 
  140.     When the password is enabled, the password is always required 
  141. when executing the command in Quick Route and deleting the command. 
  142. It is also required to unlock the password to gain access to changing 
  143. path of and to rename the command. 
  144.     To get rid of password protection, click the "Password 
  145. Protection" button. Then enter your password. Then in the Password 
  146. Protection window click the "Password Protected" button, this button 
  147. should then say "No Password" and finally click "Save & Exit".

  149. Lock/Unlock Password button: 
  150.     This button is only shown when password protection is active. 
  151. If a command is password protected, the button will always say 
  152. "Unlock Password". 
  153.     When the command is locked by a password, you cannot use the 
  154. "rename command" and "change path" options. To unlock the password, 
  155. so as to gain access to the "rename command" and "change path" options,
  156. you need to click the "Unlock Command" button. Type your password and 
  157. the password will unlock. If you want to lock the password just click 
  158. "Lock Password".

  162. 6. Making Commands

  165. i) The New Command window
  166.  
  167. There are four different things in this window:
  168.  
  169. Command name text window: This is the text window where you name your 
  170. command.
  171.  
  172. Password Controlled Check box: If this box is checked then the command 
  173. will be password protected. You will need to supply a password in the 
  174. password text window.
  175.  
  176. Cancel: This cancels the new command.
  177.  
  178. OK: This button closes this window and enables you to start searching 
  179. for the command path. If you press enter key in the Command name text 
  180. window it will perform the same action.

  183. ii) Search Options
  184.  
  185. There are three types of searches:
  186.  
  187. Automatic search: 
  188.     In this search, you must enter the type of file or a specific 
  189. file that you are looking for and type it into the search criteria. 
  190. Next, select which directory you wish this search to be performed in. 
  191. Then either press enter key in the text window or click the "Start 
  192. Search" button to start the search. 
  193.     If files have been found with your specification then they 
  194. should appear on the list of files. Double click the file you want to 
  195. select and the command will save and exit the search. 
  196. You can stop a search even midway through. To start the search again 
  197. click the "Reset" button.

  199. Manual search: 
  200.     In this search you browse through directories to find to the 
  201. file(s) you want. When you find the specified file, double-click it, 
  202. then click the "save" button to save the command.
  203.     Using the manual search you can look for any file or just 
  204. executable program files by clicking on the combo selection box.  
  205.  
  206. Type path and filename method: 
  207.     In this search all you need to do is type the path and filename 
  208. of your specified file in the text window. Then either press enter key 
  209. in the text window or click on the "save" button to save the command. 
  210. This method is the fastest method and is recommended to people who 
  211. know exactly where their file(s) are.

  216. 7) File Associations
  217.  
  218. When you select a non-executable file to use in one of your commands
  219. Quick Route looks for the file extension of the file on its database.
  220. If the file extension is found, the program associated with the file
  221. will open the selected non-executable file. 
  222. If the file extension is not found then Quick Route will ask you to 
  223. associate the file extension with a program and then save the extension
  224. name in the database.

  226. File Associations Editor: This allows you to edit the file extensions
  227. database. On the left hand side of the window are where the extension 
  228. names are kept. On the right side of the window are where the programs
  229. (to load the file extensions on the left side) are kept. You can 
  230. change, delete and create new lines of file extensions.
  231. To save the database click the "Save" button.

  235. 8) Directory and Web Page shortcuts
  236.  
  237. When you type either "dir" or "web" to open a web page or directory
  238. instead of typing the full path you can type a short alias name instead.
  239. E.g. "dir mydir" instead of "dir c:\documents\mydocs\mydirectory"
  240.  
  241. Using the "web" command you cannot type the full path of the page. You
  242. must use a web page shortcut.

  244. Adding a directory shortcut: When adding a shortcut you must enter the
  245. shortcut name and the directory name and path (e.g. c:\mydir).
  246. You can use the "browse" button to look for the directory you want to
  247. select. In browse, to select a directory you must double click the
  248. directory you want to select and then click the "Select" button.
  249. To save the shortcut to the database click the "Add Shortcut" button.

  251. Adding a web page shortcut: When adding a shortcut you must enter the
  252. shortcut name and the URL (web page) address of the web page you want 
  253. to open (e.g. http://www.myweb.com).
  254. To save the shortcut to the database click the "Add Shortcut" button.

  256. The directory and web page shortcut editors: 
  257. This allows you to edit the web and directory shortcut databases. 
  258. On the left hand side of the window are where the shortcut names are 
  259. kept. 
  260. On the right side of the window are where the full directory paths 
  261. (For the directory shortcut database) or the web page address (For the 
  262. web page shortcut database) are kept. 
  263. You can change, delete and create new lines of shortcuts, entering the
  264. shortcut name on the left and the directory path or web page address on
  265. the right.
  266. To save the database click the "Save" button.
